Sunil Gavaskar is the most successful captain for most consecutive test matches without a defeat for India. He led India from 1976-1985. His first Test as a captain was six-match Test series in West Indies. He scored lots of runs during that series and India won the series 1-0. It was his first Test series victory as a captain. He was made captain for 1979-1980 season, with six test matches against each against Australia and Pakistan. India won the test series by 2-0 with the rest of four test matches drawn. Against Pakistan , under the captaincy, India won the test series by 2-0. Again in the 1980-81 season under the captaincy of Sunil Gavaskar India won the test series by 1-0 against England at home. Most of the matches under his captaincy were drawn matches. He went 18 test without a defeat in test matches. In total he captained India in 47 test matches winning 9, losing 8 and drawing 30 matches.
