All Contracted Sri Lankan Cricketer Write Letter to Board to Probe the Allegations Made by Former Selector

Every contracted Sri Lankan players have written a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket and have asked them to inquire into the allegations made by former Sri Lankan pacer Pramodaya Wickramasinghe that there was corruption involved during Sri Lanka’s recent series defeat to Zimbabwe.

The former pacer who was also a former selector stated that there was foul play during the 4th ODI against the African minnows which the visitors won by D/L method and eventually went on to seal the series by a 3-2 margin, they’re first against the Islanders. The letter submitted to the Sri Lankan Board has been signed by all 40 contracted players including Test and ODI captain Dinesh Chandimal and Upul Tharanga respectively urging the board to conduct an enquiry on these shocking allegations.

The letter is deemed as an effort to support former captain Angelo Mathews who came under severe criticism following the series loss and decided to step down. He was criticised for not using strike bowler Lasith Malinga at a crucial juncture of the game.

“As a captain, sometimes you have to take instant decisions. A captain needs to trust his gut feeling and try things out. Sometimes these things work and sometimes they don’t. That’s part of the sport,” one of the Sri Lankan cricketers among the 40 was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“The allegations levelled on not bowling Lasith has been done without finding the facts. The light was fading and the umpires informed Mathews that play will be suspended if a fast bowler bowled. Zimbabwe was ahead of the par score at that stage and Mathews had no option but to bowl the spinners,” the player further said.

“What these allegations have done is to put enormous amount of pressure on future captains. Now the captains will be in two minds before they take a decision. That’s not good for the sport,” the player added.
