Controversial Umpire Shamshuddin Retained For The Decider In Bengaluru 1
Chettithody Shamshuddin has been retained to officiate in the final T20I game between India and England in Bengaluru.

Chettithody Shamshuddin, the on-field umpire who controversially gave Joe Root out during the second T20I game against India in Nagpur has been listed to officiate in the decider in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

England after the game was reported to have complained to the match referee about the wrong or rather put it as a controversial decision of Joe Root’s LBW, which turned the match around in the last over.

“Absolutely. We have an opportunity to do so before the next game. There’s always feedback given through the match referee on our report.”

England required just eight of six balls, but Jasprit Bumrah bowled a skitter, which found the inside edge of Root’s bat and straight onto the pads. He was wrongly adjudged out and left the English camp livid with the decision.

“There is extreme frustration. It shifted momentum, the first ball of the 20th over. Losing a batsman who’s faced 40 balls on a wicket that’s not that easy to time it on is quite a bit of a hammer blow. It’s proved very costly all things considered.”

The 46-year-old umpire wasn’t wrong in Root’s case only, he made a blunder during India’s innings also. When skipper Virat Kohli was batting, Chris Jordan trapped him cut and clear between the stumps, but it was Shamshuddin, who nodded his head and denied a dismissal.

Looking at both the decisions, the match could have gone the England’s favour. Had Virat Kohli been adjudged LBW, who knows Indian team would have scored ten runs less, or if Joe Root wasn’t given out, he could have finished the game with a couple of balls to spare too.

The decision to persist with the umpire might keep the visitors in a spot of worry heading into the winner to take all-decider in Bengaluru on Wednesday (February 1).
