In today’s 3rd test match between England and Sri Lanka, Alistair Cook surpassed Sunil Gavaskar to become the 11th highest run getter in test matches. Cook has now 10127 runs in 129 matches and still continuing to play test matches for England. He scored 85 in the first innings against Sri Lanka today. Cook started his test career in 2006 and has done a great job for England as a player, captain.

Cook average is 46.66 with the top score of 294. The England captain was the youngest player to reach 10,000 runs in test matches. The previous one was Sachin Tendulkar. Cook has 28 centuries and 48 half centuries. Cook’s technique is extraordinary and the ability to bat a long time makes him special batsmen. He makes the batting looks easy and plays according to the merit of the ball.

Sunil Gavaskar played from 1971-1987 and scored 10122 runs with the best of 236 not out. Sunil Gavaskar scored 34 centuries and 45 half centuries. He was an opener and played with solid technique.

In the list of 10 top runs getter, 3 players are from Australia, 3 are from India, 2 from Sri Lanka and  1 each from West Indies, South Africa.

Cook has been an excellent captain winning the Ashes series in 2015 and won the test series against India in 2012 in India. He led to many more victories for the country and has been a role model for England.

Cook and Sunil Gavaskar played in a different era but the style of play looks classy. Sunil Gavaskar played tall bowlers like Marshall, Holding which was tough to play. While Cook has played tough bowlers like Johnson, Dale Steyn.
