Coronavirus: Asia Cup 2020 Venue Still Not Decided; ACC’s Meeting Also Got Cancelled
As every cricket event is being delayed or cancelled because of the outbreak of Coronavirus, Asia Cup 2020 is also under threat. Earlier, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had to hold the meeting but it was cancelled because of the pandemic.
Asia cup is scheduled in September after the conclusion of Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, as the IPL has been postponed until April 15 and all the other international series have been delayed, the ACC will have to also delay the date of the tournament. As the meeting got cancelled, any expected dates have also not been proposed.
Asia Cup 2020 venue still not decided:
The other problem which is looming large as the venue is still not decided. While Pakistan has the hosting rights but BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has clearly stated that Indian players will not tour the rival nation.
Thus, Pakistan will not be able to host the event at home and the ACC has to decide the neutral venue. Apparently, the UAE will be the venue.
However, according to reports, PCB is requesting ACC executive board to allow it to host some matches of the Asia Cup T20 against other teams like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or Afghanistan at home even if it is decided to hold the tournament at a neutral venue.
Pakistan was successful in bringing the cricket to their home after hosting the international series against Sri Lanka. Further, Bangladesh toured Pakistan to play the T20I series.
However, after playing One Test match, the tour was called off because of the outbreak of Coronavirus.
The virus has currently halted every major event from IPL to ICC T20 World Cup 2020 qualifiers. Also, the impending T20 World Cup is on to the verge of either getting postponed or getting cancelled.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled later this year in October. Though that month is far, the increasing number of deceased across the globe has been a major cause of concern.
