The Story
The Mithali Raj led India women’s team won the country’s heart with their performances in the just concluded ICC Women’s World Cup in England. The highly motivated bunch of ladies finished as the runners – up in the tournament.
The road to the final was paved after superb victories over defending champions Australia in the semi-finals. But, fate seemed to be completely in favour of the hosts. The Women in Blue fell one step short of creating history at Lord’s, as England pulled off a highly dramatic victory and caused an unlikely upset.
After being 191/3 at one stage during a chase of 229, India was stunned by seamer Anya Shrubsole, who snapped a six wicket haul, and was bundled out for just 219.

Such a defeat is tough to handle. While it’s needless to say that the entire country was proud of the ladies anyway, it’s would have been obviously very hard for the players involved to get over the fact that fumbled after being so close to the title win.
Sleepless Night For Veda Krishnamurthy
Talking to Indian Express, the 24-year-old said,
“I was awake the entire night after the loss and couldn’t get a wink of sleep. I think I finally managed to close my eyes at 4 am but then got up an hour later and was awake the entire day. The whole scenario just kept repeating in my head.”
Veda was at the crease with Deepti Sharma when the side required just 29 from 33 deliveries. The victory seemed easy, as both the individuals are fairly famous for their attacking approaching and ability to finish the games.
However, soon, Veda lost her wicket while attempting a slog and was dismissed after having contributed 34 from 35 deliveries. It was the turning point of the game, as England, later on, effected one of the impossible feats in cricket and wrapped up the India innings shortly thereafter.
