County Stint Will Help Him Prepare for England Tour, Reckons Axar Patel
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel feels his stint in the upcoming County Championship will help him acclimatised to the conditions in the United Kingdom and prepare him better before India embarks on its next tour to England in July.
Meanwhile, Axar has penned a deal with Durham and will play six games for the side. He is likely to make his debut against Glamorgan on August 19 in an away game.
The other five games will be against Northamptonshire, Sussex, Middlesex, Leicestershire, and Warwickshire.
Moreover, Durham is now eyeing for promotion to first division cricket in England.
It will help me prepare for England tour
Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Patel admits preparing for the England tour is the main reason for playing in the UK. He also revealed this stint would grow him as a player.
“One of the main reasons behind signing for Durhan was that it will help me prepare for India’s tour of England. It will help me know what more I must add to my game, and that is why I signed for Durham,” Axar said.
Meanwhile, Axar becomes the fourth Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara to opt for first-class cricket in England.
“The thing about going to England for county cricket is that it I am also not featuring regularly in domestic cricket and for the national team I most playing ODI’s and T20Is. So the experience of playing four-day cricket also gives me a lot of exposure,” he added.
With the ICC World Cup looming ahead in England, it will do a world of good to the all-rounder.
It will also allow the 26-year-old Axar to get used to seam-friendly pitches. In conclusion, he admitted he is hopeful of doing good in England.
“I can get an experience of the wicket in those parts and hopefully to well there,” he concluded.
