Known as one of the finest spinners of this generation, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan was at the receiving end against England. Eoin Morgan and his men piled up 397/6 in their 50 overs. Rashid was taken to the cleaners as he conceded 110 runs in his 10 overs- the most by a bowler in the history of World Cup.

He went for 11 sixes, seven of which was hit by Morgan. England’s skipper smacked a total of 17 sixes and hit 148 runs, his highest ever score in ODIs. Morgan broke the world record for maximum sixes in an ODI inning.

Rashid became an instant meme-magnet as he was trolled by the internet. Interestingly, the official account of the Caribbean Premier League didn’t stay behind as they mocked the leggie with a tweet that read- ‘Fastest hundred in Afghanistan v England match- Rashid Khan- 49 balls, Eoin Morgan- 54 balls’.

Many found the tweet to be in bad taste while the admin of the CPL’s twitter account tried to make it up by sharing a clip of Rashid’s brilliance in the league while playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors. The spinner bagged a hattrick against the Jamaican Tallawahs two years back.

However, the Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib defended his teammate post the thrashing in the hands of England last night. On being asked if Rashid disappointed him as he went for plenty, the skipper said that Rashid is one of the best spinners and it can happen to anyone.

“Not really,” Naib told a news conference when asked if Rashid had disappointed him at Old Trafford. “He’s one of the best spinners, he’s a star player in world cricket. It can happen with any player, not just Rashid.” he said.

“Everyone knows how good he is and how he bowls. I think it was not his day today. But it’s cricket, sometimes you do well, sometimes this kind of stuff happens. I’m happy with him. I don’t think it’s a big deal.” the skipper said while backing his ward.
