Credit To Bangladesh, They Made Us Fight: Steve Smith

Australian captain Steve Smith felt that his side managed to produce a complete all round performance to win the second test at Chittagong and draw the series against Bangladesh.

The visitors who went into the game, losing the first Test at Dhaka, were under tremendous pressure. However, a Lyon inspired outing helped Aussies to share the spoils in the low profile series.

“I thought we played some good cricket at times in this Test match. The first innings, our bowling to restrict them to what we did was a real good effort.

“Lyon took 22 wickets in this series and that’s incredible, it was a good wicket and there wasn’t much for him,” Smith said.

The 28-year old thought that his side could have stretched their first innings lead after managing 72 run lead at the end of their innings. A flurry of wickets, in the end, meant Bangladesh were able to control the lead below 100.

“We could have taken a bigger lead in the first innings but credit to Bangladesh, they really made us fight in this series.

“For us, the batting collapses have become a regular occurrence and it is something we need to rectify. We get ourselves in good positions and cannot go on with it. It is nice to get to a 1-1 draw.”

He also insisted that conditions are quite different in Bangladesh and believe they are well known for conditions at home when they play Ashes in November.

“The conditions here are a bit different to what we are going to get back home; we know the conditions back home for the Ashes pretty well. We are going to India and then home for the Ashes.”

Speaking of the positives in the game, Smith said:

“Pat Cummins cranked it up today which is a great sign for us. Davey Warner was exceptional in the second innings in Dhaka and out here as well. Handscomb too was excellent too and that partnership set up the game for us.”
