Miffed by the Anil Kumble-Virat Kohli fiasco, BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman is reportedly not willing to consult the Indian team or the captain while appointing the new coach.

The CAC, in June last year, had chosen Kumble over the likes of Ravi Shastri and Tom Moody and the legendary leg-spinner totally justified the decision by guiding the team brilliantly throughout his tenure. He began his spell with a 2-0 Test series win West Indies before helping Virat Kohli & his boys register a Test series win at home against New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1- 0) and Australia (2-1) later on.

During his tenure, the Men in Blue registered ODI series win over New Zealand and England and a T20I series win over the latter in addition to finishing the runners-up in the just-concluded ICC Champions Trophy in England.

However, Kumble’s highly-successful spell ended on a sad note, as he stepped down from his post after being told that captain Kohli had some reservations over his coaching ‘style’. Kumble’s resignation ended the nasty episode that began with the rumours of the rift between him and Kohli before in the build-up to the Champions Trophy. The CAC along with the officials tried their best to resolve the issue during the tournament but to no avail as Kumble decided to walk away.

And the CAC has now made it clear that they will not consider the players’ views while selecting the new coach.

“They have made it clear that while choosing the next coach, they may not consult the team or captain. They have made their views clear. Let’s see how to go about it,” a source close to the BCCI said.

The BCCI, meanwhile, has decided to call for more applications for the head coach’s position. It had advertised for the post last month and had received applications from Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh and Lalchand Rajput.
