Cricket Australia Central Contracts 2019-20: Steve Smith, David Warner Find A Place, Mitchell Marsh Misses Out

The defending champions of the ICC World Cup 2019 have announced their squad for the title defence on Monday. Besides the announcement of the squad, they also revealed the central contracts for the upcoming season of 2019-2020. They are quite a few surprising inclusions and exclusions alongside the comeback of David Warner and Steve Smith.

The contracts were handed to the players by looking into the upcoming two major events for Australia. They focussed on ICC World Cup 2019, which will be followed by Ashes Series at the end of the year. They handed the contract to those players, whom they think has the ability to make things fall in place for them across the formats.

Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar misses out:

The major surprise is the fast bowler James Pattinson, who has regained a central contract. He has also been named in both A squads, having originally been told to concentrate on county cricket in England.

Mitchell Marsh had been the vice-captain in October but has lost his spot in all three formats and now, he lost his CA contract as well.  Despite that, he has been selected in the Australia A squads for the tour of England ahead of this year’s Ashes series.

Apart from Mitchell Marsh, the other major players, who missed out their place on the contract list are Ashton Agar, Matt Renshaw, Andrew Tye. Marnus Labuschange and Billy Stanlake. Labuschagne’s exclusion was a surprise, who delivered it brilliantly for the team.

“We believe the 2019/20 contract list provides us with a versatile group of players who can represent Australia across all three formats over the contract period,” national selector Trevor Hohns said.

“Our key criteria focused on selecting a pool of players who are going to help us in our ambition to win the upcoming World Cup and Ashes Series in England, and who can also play the various formats over the course of the Australian summer,” he added.

The former skipper Steve Smith and the stylish southpaw David Warner finds a place in the chart. They also found their name on the world cup squad that will tour England.

Here is the players’ list of Cricket Australia’s Central Contract 2019-2020:

Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb. Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh. Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins
