On December 2, 2016, the fans witnessed it for the second time across the cricket-mad world that Cricket Australia set a junior children Guinness World Record by organizing an event, which received 500-odd young cricketers for the largest MILO in2CRICKET cricket lesson at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
“It was a lot of fun out on the SCG today leading this giant MILO in2CRICKET lesson and it was certainly the most cricketers I’ve ever coached at one time. To help set a new world record is great but it was just as exciting to see so many kids getting involved in our great sport,” said Darren Lehmann.
Guinness World Record officials were also present on the occasion to have a closer look at the attempt of junior cricketers for the largest cricket session at the SCG.
The junior participants batted, bowled, fielded for half-an-hour during the conducted session while meeting all the rules and requirements set by GWR adjudicators to create history.
While doing the same kind of activity, the previous best record was with 250 schoolkids, who had also participated in a 30-minute cricket session.
With a mascot from each of the eight Big Bash League teams, the schoolkids were guided by some of the familiar faces in Australian cricket which included Australian head coach Darren Lehmann and fast bowler Peter Siddle, followed by off-spinner Nathan Lyon, Peter Nevill, Hilton Cartwright and Meg Lanning.
MILO in2CRICKET including MILO T20 program had attracted around 600,500 participants every year in schools and cricket clubs across Australia.
