Dec 1, 2018 at 9:26 AM
Team India skipper Virat Kohli had a good time with the ball when other bowlers struggled during the practice game against Cricket Australia XI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Meanwhile, the hosts took a mammoth 186 runs lead in the first essay. CA XI posted 544 runs in reply to India’s 358 giving a tough time to the bowlers. The lower-order contributed significantly as the likes of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Ravichandran Ashwin found it tough to finish off the tail.
Shami was the pick of the bowlers returning with three wickets while Ashwin chipped in with two. India will have to improve their bowler, considered as their main weapon, to go well in the opening Test.
However, the Indian skipper enjoyed his time with the ball during the warm-up game. On third day’s play, he bowled two overs when other bowlers failed to make an impact. Furthermore, on day four, he took the ball in his hands to bowl his medium pace deliveries as other bowlers found it hard.
Much to the surprise of everybody, Virat Kohli came up with a big wicket of Harry Nielsen on a score of 100. Nielsen batted brilliantly to frustrate the Indian bowlers but gave away his wicket on a half-pitch delivery.
The left-handed batsman tried to loft Kohli over on-side but ended up giving a simple catch to Umesh Yadav at mid-on. Kohli seemed delighted with the wicket and celebrated the moment with a big fat smile on his face.
