Want to be a professional cricketer?
It was a sudden and shocking retirement from India’s right-handed batsman Ambati Rayudu. None would have expected that he would take such a decision at a very early age. However, the decision was already made and regarding the same, the cricketers across the globe paid their tribute to him.
The dream of representing your country in the World Cup is something every cricketer wants to realise. Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu, having come within touching distance of making this dream a reality, announced his retirement from all formats on Wednesday after failing to earn the selectors’ trust for a spot in the Indian squad for the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales.
Ambati Rayudu called it quits:
Ambati Rayudu was named among five standbys for the World Cup but was ignored twice when the selectors and the Indian team management opted for Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal as replacements for the injured pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar
Rayudu initially criticized the selectors for not picking him in India’s squad that travelled to England and was also not called up following injuries to and Vijay Shankar, with Pant and Agarwal selected instead of him.
Having missed out on the initial World Cup squad, Rayudu remained in contention to replace one of the injured stars – Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar – who both were ruled out in the middle of the tournament.
The team management, however, went with Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal as replacements, a decision that seemed to have played its role in making Rayudu call time on his career.
However, in the 50 ODI innings that he has played, Rayudu scored 1694 runs at an average of 47.05 with a top score of 124*. He has hit three centuries and 10 fifties and has a strike rate of 79.04. In the five T20Is innings that he has played, he has scored 42 runs at an average of 10.50.

No one can feel the real pain; a players pain. #AmbatiRayudu takes a decision to retire suddenly; would have been a painful decision. Once selected in the list of World Cup probables he should not be over looked. Very unfair; for any player. #CWC19

Must definitely be very painful at being ignored for the WorldCup for #AmbatiRayudu but I wish him all the very best in life after retirement.

Have to feel for #AmbatiRayudu , did everything he could to make a comeback, did well in the opportunities he got but the World Cup snub must have hurt him really deeply. Wish him the best in retirement.

Really feel for #AmbatiRayudu. Always gave it everything he had but sometimes was left holding the wrong cards. So hope he continues in domestic white ball cricket so that we can see his wholehearted style of play in the #IPL. This is an emotional moment but there is a tomorrow

What surprises me most is that the entire @BCCI current selection panel had an unfulfilled career themselves!!!Even then they could not give a fair run to talent like @RayuduAmbati. What a shame!!! While it’s important to win titles, guess it’s more important to have a heart.

Can understand the pain and anguish Ambati Rayudu may be feeling after the World Cup snub even after performing well.
I wish him lots of happiness and peace in his second innings.
