Gautam Gambhir has made a sensational return to the Indian Test team. After the squad for the series against New Zealand, it was very much clear that the team management did not want to disturb the winning combination and wanted to give the youngsters an extended run. But as they fortune favours the brave and out of nowhere in-form opener KL Rahul suffered an injury. It opened the gates for Gautam Gambhir to wear the Indian jersey after being out of the team for two long years. The southpaw was consistently performing in the domestic arena and the Indian Premier League. Pressure on the selectors piled up after Gambhir’s brilliant performance in this year’s Duleep Trophy.

The injury to Rahul can be a blessing a disguise for the Indian team which is struggling to play spin. One of the best players of spin in the country, Gambhir will undoubtedly bolster the batting lineup. But it will be interesting to see whether he will be included in the playing eleven or Shikhar Dhawan is given another chance.
