The gentleman’s game has had become more inclined towards technology which has yield significant results, as Cricket Hong Kong is gearing up to give its best shot – to embrace the digital platforms, in order to entertain the spectators, as Hong Kong Super Sixes tournament will be pushing the game toward a new high — to mark the restart of new innings.

“It’s looking positive and we hope to have an announcement in the next couple of weeks,” Cricket Hong Kong’s marketing and Commercial Director Max Abbott was quoted as saying by China Morning Post.

The organizers have settled with a plan to engage cricket fanatics through digital medium, as the Hong King Super Sixes have had pulled the decent crowd in the past which has featured the twelve teams participating in the event organized by Cricket Hong Kong.

“I don’t want to say too much at this stage but if we do it – we will want to give fans watching at home and at the ground a new experience,” Abbott maintained.

After the pro-longed gap of five years, the tournament is expected to provide brand new experience to cricket fans at Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC) in late October, after the six-a-side tournament was off the track owing to financial restraints since 2012.

“The Sixes format allows us to experiment and push the boundaries,” revealed Abbott.

As the Cricket Hong Kong is aiming to revive the much-awaited competition while revealing they are also looking to engage the foreign viewers. After Twenty20 Blitz, the reports suggested Cricket Hong Kong is going to stage two competitions, in a bid to make the event popular among the cricketing fraternity which has also featured players from top-notch cricket familiar countries.

“The Sixes brand is still very strong in Hong Kong, but we just need to take stock after the success of the Blitz to assess what our best strategy is,” Abbott remarked.

Abbott believes lot of changes have had taken since tournament came to a halt adding they have taken different initiates to bring back the competition and make it more of a crowd favourite game.

“A lot’s changed since 2012, so if we bring it back it won’t just be for the sake of nostalgia, we are looking at ways we can innovate and take the event forward,” Abbott further said.

The Hong Kong Sixes tournament is scheduled to kick off from October 28 after failing to start in 2016, owning to lack of sponsors. However, the recently concluded T20 Blitz was a huge success which has attracted over 12 million via social media platform and the expectations are also high with the Hong Kong Sixes in order to lure the digital market.

“Across the board really, but particularly in terms of how people watch and engage with the matches in the digital space,” Abbott concluded.

The tournament came into inception in 1992 which comprised of total 18 editions. England and Pakistan have claimed five titles each as South Africa last won in 2012.
