South Africa has announced equal pay across genders in cricket, as per the latest announcement both Men and Women cricketers are set to receive equal match fees for the International matches. The Proteas women’s team has been highly successful in the last year or so, as they reached the finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil earlier this year.
South Africa will join the likes of India and New Zealand as the countries having the same payroll for both Men and Women cricketers in match fees and the increase in the pay will make a significant impact on Women’s cricket in South Africa. Earlier this year, ICC announced the same prize money for men’s and women’s teams at ICC events.
The senior women’s team become the first proteas to reach a World Cup final in the history of the game despite being one of the powerhouses in the game over the last few years. Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki has announced this historic step in South African cricket and believes that it will help women’s growth in international cricket
“We are thrilled to unveil the Professional Women’s Cricket League, an initiative that celebrates the remarkable achievements of our national women’s cricket team and paves the way for an even brighter future,” Moseki said.
“The professionalization of the women’s domestic structure aims to elevate the women’s cricketing landscape by providing a platform for local talent to shine, fostering a culture of sporting excellence, while inspiring the next generation of players.”

Pholetsi Moseki said that it is an important step in the growth of South African cricket on the global cricket stage, as it will help the local talent in the country and create an environment for the players to come in for deep love in the sport.
“With the success of South African cricket on the global stage, we believe that this will be a stepping stone for local talent, creating an environment that fosters growth, resilience, and a deep love for the sport.

Earlier this year, Marco Jansen, Tristan Stubbs, Bjorn Fortuin, and Sisanda Magala are awarded contracts for their terrific performance in the inaugural SA20. South African cricket is going through a change as new coaches have taken over and Aiden Markram named as the new captain of the South African T20 side and the proteas will look to put a dominating performance in ODI World Cup 2023.
