After six losses in seven games during the Sheffield Shield matches, Cricket Tasmania has terminated the contract of the Tasmania Tigers head coach Dan Marsh with immediate effect following the team’s poor performance in the first-class leg in Australia.
Cricket Tasmania chairman took a dig at the approach of Tasmania’s chief coach for not delivering the results he had been expected to.
Gaggin expressed it’s the best time to call for a fresh coach to settle the team, which is struggling in the first-class competition.
“The players are the ones who perform on the field, but the Head Coach has ultimate responsibility for results and performance,” the chairman of Cricket Tasmnai Andrew Gaggin was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.
The 43-year-old Marsh was assigned the job in 2013-14 season in place of Tim Coyle. While Marsh being in-charge, Tasmania registered 37 wins in Shield matches.
“Tasmanian cricket is on a journey and it will take time and patience to rebuild the squad by identifying the right players.” Gaggin said.
Marsh’s contract was extended in March last year. He spent three-and-half-seasons with Tasmania Tigers before being removed as the head coach.
“On behalf of the Cricket Tasmania Board, management, staff, members and fans generally I would like to thank Dan for his period as coach and service to Tasmanian cricket,” Gaggin added.
Under the guidance of Marsh, Tasmania finished fifth in consecutive seasons before finding their place at the bottom of the table with a winning percentage of 21.6.
The club is yet to appoint a coach on interim basis.
