On Saturday Steve Waugh, former Australian skipper said that India need to confront their mental scars against his countrymen as they prepare for this week’s International Cricket Council World Cup semi-final fight here.

Australia dominated over India, in both Tests and One Day Internationals (ODIs), before the International Cricket Council World Cup at home.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported, Steve Waugh said while the Michael Clarke-led Australian team enjoyed a psychological edge over the Indians, he was impressed by India’s current form.

He thinks Australia will, mentally, be a lot tougher match for them. India has been continuously beaten by Australia over the last couple of months and they will definitely remember that.

Steve, who captained Australia to Cup success in 1999, also added that India seem to be in good shape. They are playing pretty well and their batting is able of chasing any target. They’ have played well during the International Cricket Council World Cup and they are on a good streak at the moment.

Waugh further said that this is a match where both teams will feel a bit worried. They will both feel confident but if they do not bring their A game they are not going to get the victory.

Steve said it satisfied him to think the Aussies still had plenty of improvement in their match at the knockout level of the International Cricket Council World Cup. It was a good win against Pakistan on Friday night but he thinks there is still a fair bit of work for them to do. The side is constructing momentum. He does not think they have seen the best out of them yet and he sees that as a good sign because it means they are capable of improvement still.

Waugh was quoted saying: “It was only a quick trip; dinner with the team, attending a team meeting and then a training session the next day. (My role) was more about talking to the guys, it was very relaxed.”
