Sachin Tendulkar – arguably the greatest cricketer ever to grace this planet after Sir Don Bradman is celebrating his 46th birthday today. Born in 1973 in Mumbai, it was in the destiny of Tendulkar to become a cricketer. Named after the legendary singer Sachin Dev Burman, Tendulkar grew up playing cricket on the streets before his brother took him to Ramakant Achrekar and the rest is history.
Making his debut at the age of 16, Sachin Tendulkar faced the deadly attack of Pakistan boasting Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younis. He didn’t have a fruitful debut, and the initial matches also didn’t go his way, But Tendulkar had massive faith in his game, and it paid off as he finished as the highest run-scorer in international cricket.
The God of Cricket – nicknamed for his excellent ability with the bat, finished his career with 34,357 runs across the three formats — 15,921 in 200 Tests, 18426 in 463 ODIs and 10 in 1 T20 international. Moreover, he also has 100 centuries to his name and scored the first double hundred in ODI cricket against South Africa in 2010. Sachin Tendulkar appeared in the World Cup for a record number of six times – winning it in 2011 in front of his home crowd in Mumbai.
Currently, Sachin Tendulkar is associated with the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League. Tendulkar has played for Mumbai franchise since the inception of the league and has joined the franchise since his retirement to help the young cricketers. Mumbai are currently in a good place and looks in line to qualify for the playoffs in this edition of the IPL.
