The most famous name among the Prince of cricket. His batting style was not less than suited to a Prince. Lara is cricket’s most precious jewel. His batting has won the hearts of cricket fans across the world. His batting usually justified his nickname of “Prince”. That extravagant backswing and the resultant full bladed shots, especially a cover drive which looked all the more beautiful in the greenery of Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain. Yajurvindra Singh, from the royal house of Bilkha in Gujarat, livened up the first of his four Tests, against England in Bangalore in 1976-77, by taking five catches in an innings and seven in the match, equalling the Test records for an outfielder at the time. Most of them were snapped up at short leg, and all but one came off those great spinners Prasanna and Chandrasekhar. And according to one disgruntled player, “some of them even touched the bat”.
