Lala Amarnath

Though not in the same context of the title, Lala Amarnath has the distinction of playing for India even after Partition despite having been born in the small village Kapurthala and brought up in Lahore, Pakistan.
During the Partition in August 1947, Amarnath and his family left Lahore and moved to Patiala in the Indian state of Punjab till 1957 before moving to the capital city, Delhi.
Amarnath made his debut for India against England in 1933 on the Bombay Gymkhana grounds in South Bombay and was a part of the first Indian team which toured England in 1936 under the captaincy of Maharajkumar of Vizianagaram.
He remains a distinguished batsman who holds the honour of being the first Indian to score a Test century. Amarnath was captain of the Indian team that toured Australia in 1947-1948 an also led India to its first victory over Pakistan. He also remains the only India bowler to have taken the wicket of Sir Donald Bradman during India’s tour of Australia in 1947 at Brisbane. His career wasn’t lengthy. He featured in only 24 Tests and made 848 runs.
However, the stats do not describe the talent the later cricket had in him.
