AB de Villiers is one of the great cricketers is the world who sacrificed a lot to South African cricket. He started his career as a prowler (read: floater) more than a batsman. He batted from No. 1 to No. 8 before settling in at No. 4. He is one of the great batsmen for whom batting position doesn’t a matter, he can blast bowlers from any position. In the 2015 India in the final ODI, he came to bat at No. 6 and changed the course of the match as his innings helped South Africa to score 400 plus runs on the board. He was ODI captain of the South African team. Initially, he was the captain of all formats. But because of pressure, CSA reduced his workload giving the Test captaincy to Hashim Amla and T20 to Faf du Plessis.

However, after South Africa’s two consecutive series defeat to India and England, Amla quit the captaincy, as a result, CSA asked de Villiers to take over the Test captaincy. De Villiers took over the captaincy as CSA has no other option as of now.
