As the Cyclone Fani has lashed India’s east coast in Odisha with gusty winds blowing at 120 miles per hour, Team India skipper Virat Kohli has extended his thoughts and prayers for the safety of people affected by the powerful cyclone in the eastern coast of the country.
It has been said that the storm is equivalent to Category-5 hurricane which has hit the Odisha after two decades. On Friday (May 2) at 8:00 AM IST, the extremely severe storm has made landfall in Puri, a city in Odisha.
Earlier, the rehabilitation process roughly saw 11 lakh, people, been evacuated to the safer places. It becomes pertinent here that the cyclone has made landfall on May 2. It further saw incessant rains and landslides wreaking havoc in the region.
On the other side, the closure of the road, air services has taken a severe hit. Earlier, the government has braced up for a massive challenge, in a bid to avoid casualties during nature’s furry.
Apart from the unverified reports of deaths in Odisha, the houses were destroyed with trees being uprooted during the cyclone.
Earlier, the Indian Meteorological Department has warned the people to stay indoors. Thus, the streets were emptied apart from the other precautionary measures in a bid to be better prepared for the storm.
In 1999, Cyclone Fan has claimed more than 10,000 lives.
It is being feared that Cyclone Fani could affect roughly 10,000 villages.
Meanwhile, Kohli is not the first who has taken to social media to pray for people’s safety. The batting giant took to micro-blogging website, Twitter, to express his concern.
Currently, Kohli is partaking in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has already crashed out in the league stage fixtures.
They’ll take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last group stage fixture on May 4 in Bengaluru.
