Delhi Daredevils (DD) will miss the services of their South African recruit Kagiso Rabada in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Proteas star has been ruled out of action with a lower-back stress reaction. He was retained by Delhi Daredevils using the Right to Match Card for INR 4.2 crore.

Rabada felt tightness and discomfort during the fourth Test against Australia in Johannesburg before scans revealed the injury. He is expected to remain on the sidelines for up to three months.

Star Sports India Pvt Ltd overcame a stiff challenge from Reliance Industries Limited and Sony Pictures Networks India. It came while aiming to acquire the BCCI media rights, for both television and digital platforms, for a period of five years (2018-2023). They bagged the rights after registering a whopping bid of INR 6138.1 Crores.

Star Sports now have the rights to India’s all international and domestic fixtures at home in the five-year period commencing from April 15, 2018, until March 31, 2023.

Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu wins India’s second gold medal:

Weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu gave the nation its second gold medal of the 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG), in Gold Coast City by dominating the women’s 53kg event.

The 24-year old Manipuri broke the existing CWG record with a lift of 84kg in the snatch category. She then lifted 108 in the clean & jerk to finish with a combined effort of 192kg.

India women thrash Malaysia 4-1:

The India women’s hockey team registered their first victory of the games with a comfortable 4-1 win over Malaysia in their second match of Pool A.

Two goals from Gurjit Kaur (6’, 39’) and a goal each from skipper Rani (56’) and Lalremsiami (59’) saw the Indians secure a much-needed victory.

The only goal for Malaysia was scored by Nuraini Rashid in the 38th minute.

Boxers Amit, Naman enter quarter-finals:

Boxers Amit Panghal (49kg) and Naman Tanwar (91kg) stormed into the quarter-finals after notching up comprehensive wins in their opening bouts of the Commonwealth Games.

Tanwar defeated Tanzania’s Haruna Mhando in a lopsided unanimous verdict to make the last-eight stage in the afternoon session.

In the evening session, Amit beat Ghana’s Tetteh Sulemanu in another one-sided bout.

Deepak Lather’s bronze seals India’s 4th medal:

Deepak Lather gave India its fourth medal at the games by winning the bronze medal in the men’s 69 kg weightlifting competition.

In doing so, the 18-year old also became the youngest Indian weightlifter to claim a Commonwealth Games medal.

He lifted a total of 295 kgs to win the medal. Gareth Evans of Wales won the gold with 299 kgs while Indika Dissanayake of Sri Lanka won the silver with 297kgs.

Atletico Madrid, Arsenal FC take command in Europa League quarterfinals

Atletico Madrid beat Sporting 2-0 while Arsenal saw off CSKA Moscow 4-. Similarly, the traditional heavyweights gained control of their respective Europa League quarterfinals tie.

Alexandre Lacazette marked his return to the starting lineup with two goals. In addition, Aaron Ramsey also bagged a brace as the duo led Arsenal’s rout their Russian opponent.

In Spain, Koke struck after just 22 seconds before Antoine Griezmann sealed the game for Atletico.

On the other hand, Leipzig edged past Marseille 1-0. Moreover, Lazio ended Salzburg’s unbeaten run of 35 games with a 4-2 win in Rome.
