South African speedster Dale Steyn is all set to make a comeback in the international arena after a prolonged gap. The prominent bowler suffered a heel injury last year but has now recovered fully to don the national jersey.

Recently, the Proteas side beat India before thrashing Australia at home, without the service of one of their experienced campaigners.

The 34-year-old Steyn injured his heel during the first Test against India at Newlands.

Moreover, the dynamic cricketer had earlier injured his shoulder against Australia in 2016 in the series Down Under.

While many thought that Steyn’scareerr is pretty much over, the newsmaker has announced his comeback this season following rigorous rehabilitation programme.

“The ball is coming out sweetly. Steyn approached Hampshire in order to get match fit through a stint with the county club.  I needed to get back on the park and play a bit of cricket. South Africa tour Sri Lanka in July so I felt that June was a great time to come and play some cricket,” Steyn was quoted as saying by Hampshire Cricket.

Steyn looking for match-practice:

Steyn also hinted at extending his contract with Hampshire following the wrap up of South Africa’s series against Sri Lanka. He also aims at being part of the scheme of things for Proteas’ sub-continental tour, where they would play five One-day Internationals and two Tests.

Dale Steyn set to sizzle:

The fearsome pacer Steyn will take part in the vital day-night game against Somerset. Director of Cricket Giles White threw his weight behind the pacer.

“Dale is part of the squad and will definitely play. To have a world-class player with us has been exciting for the whole group, especially the eight academy-produced players, who will learn a lot from him,” he added.

Giles said the fast bowler looks raring to go after sweating it hard at the nets.

“Dale’s looked good, he’s bowled within himself but has swung the white ball, which not many do, and looks as motivated as ever. He’s been ready to play since April after running out of time to get himself fit for South Africa’s last two Tests against Australia [in March], but has just had no cricket to play,” Steyn asserted.
