The test win for South Africa against Sri Lanka in the first test at Galle saw Dale Steyn not just ripping through the Sri Lankan batting line-up but also saw the South African surpass many records enroute to his 9 wickets for 99 runs in the first test.
This is also the best bowling performance by a South African in Test match versus Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. In fact, no other fast bowler has done as well in a Test played at Galle than the heroics produced by Dale Steyn. The South African broke a 13-year old record set by West Indian Courtney Walsh with 77 wickets in Asia by a bowler from outside the sub-continent.
Steyn also became the first non-Asian fast bowler to complete 80 wickets at an average of 22.17 in 16 Tests. Steyn and his partner-in-crime Morne Morkel, who picked up 16 of the 20 host wickets also became the most by a visiting fast-bowling pair in a Test match in Sri Lanka.
