Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Monday, August 7, 2023, announced that they had appointed Daniel Vettori as their new head coach, replacing Brian Lara at the helm. This development comes as the franchise prepares for the IPL 2024 season.
Brian Lara had replaced Tom Moody ahead of IPL 2023 as the head coach as SRH looked for a new chapter in their aim of winning their second IPL title, spending money of some big-name players as well. However, SRH performed poorly in the tournament, finishing at the bottom of the points table with only 4 wins in 14 matches.
Lara was earlier the batting coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and there were many expectations by the management and the fans as well, that the West Indies legend would bring new life into the team.
However, it was not to be and SRH announced parting of ways with Lara on social media with a tweet that read: “As our 2 year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him. Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours.”

Daniel Vettori Joins SRH As Their New Head Coach
The 44-year-old former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori is not new to coaching in IPL, as he was previously the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side from 2014-2018. Under him, RCB reached the playoff in 2015 and the final in 2016.
As of now, Vettori is the head coach of Birmingham Phoenix in the Men’s Hundred tournament and since May 2022, has been with the Australian team as an assistant consultant. He also served as the bowling coach of the Bangladesh team.
His CV further includes stints with Barbados Royals in the CPL, Brisbane Heat in the BBL, and Middlesex in the Vitality Blast as a coach.
Vettori’s announcement means SRH will now have a fifth separate coach in six seasons. Moody (2019), Trevor Bayliss (2020 and 2021), and Moody again (2022) served the Orange Army before Lara.
