England has named uncapped Western Storm duo Danielle Gibson and Lauren Filer in a 15-strong squad for the Women’s Ashes Test against Australia, starting next week. The Women’s Ashes 2023 will be a multi-format series comprising a one-off Test, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
The Test carries four points, while each of the T20Is and ODIs carries two points.
Gibson, an all-rounder, was Storm’s co-leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the Charlotte Edwards Cup this year. She also traveled as a backup for the Women’s T20 World Cup in February.
In Storm’s previous two campaigns, Filer, who has previously played for England Academy, has been a stalwart. She strengthens England’s seam-bowling options, which were also lacking Katherine Sciver-Brunt during the drawn Test match at Taunton last year due to her retirement.

England’s head coach Jon Lewis was excited about the upcoming series and talked about his new recruits.
“We are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting Ashes series. We are fortunate that our talent pool is growing fast, this has enabled us to pick a nicely balanced squad.
Dani [Gibson] is one of the form cricketers in the country, she is improving both with bat and ball and if selected in the team, offers us a dynamic cricketer who can change the momentum of the game,” he was quoted by ICC.
Danni Wyatt And Alice Capsey Also Part Of Test Squad; Lauren Winfield-Hil To Captain England A
Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb, who opened in that game and have displayed some skill in domestic cricket thus far this season, were also picked to the squad. Danni Wyatt, who missed last year’s Test after finishing as the top run-scorer in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, was also included. After a breakthrough year in 2022, Alice Capsey has a chance to make her Test debut by being called up.
Also, Lauren Winfield-Hill was named the captain of the England A squad to face the senior Australia Women’s team in a three-day warm-up in Leicester this week. Alice Davidson-Richards and Wyatt will play for England A in the warm-up match while also being part of the Test squad.

Grace Scrivens, the England Under-19 captain who led her country to the age-group T20 World Cup final in South Africa earlier this year, was also named in the A side.
