D’Arcy Short has become just the fourth Australian batsman to score a double century in one-day cricket, smashing a record total of 257 against Queensland at Hurstville Oval.
Meanwhile, Short brought his century from just 83 balls, his second in List A cricket. Furthermore, he continued on to a memorable double century from just 128 deliveries. Eventually, he got out on 257 runs from 148 balls, the third highest score in one-day cricket.
D’Arcy Short moved from 100 to 200 in just 45 deliveries and then from 200 to 250 in 16 balls, and his tally of 257 represented two-thirds of West Australia’s total of 387. Marcus Stoinis was the second-highest scorer for the innings with 27.
His 23 sixes is a record in all one-day cricket; the only other man to score 23 sixes at the domestic level is Colin Munro, who did so in a first-class inning. Moreover, D’Arcy Short joined fellow southpaws en Dunk, Phillip Hughes, and Travis Head to become the fourth Australian to score a double-hundred. Only Surrey’s Ali Brown (268) and India’s Rohit Sharma (264) have scored more runs in a single one-day inning.
The dashing opener was especially harsh on leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson taking him for 97 runs from eight overs. Short also took on the fast bowler to bring his 250, which will be in the memory of the cricket lovers for long.
