Dark clouds surround the broadcasting of India vs Bangladesh series
A bad news for all the cricket fans in India is coming up as there are now dark clouds over the broadcasting of the India vs Bangladesh series. This is a 3 match ODI series and will start from 15th of this month. The fact that India has rested its key players and the FIFA World Cup being at the same time has been the main reason on why the tournament has not attracted Indian broadcasters.
Gazi TV owns the broadcasting rights for the bilateral series . According to the reports , they have not been able to get an agreement with any of the Indian broadcasters and this may prevent the broadcating of these matches in India. Sony has not shown any interests and Star Sports has not provided any economical deal.
Salahuddin Chowdhury, CFO and head of operations of Gazi Group said that Star has offered less than a million dollars for 3 matches which is very less than the cost of the rights. Sony has shown no interest as they have Brazil World Cup lined up and don’t have free slots because of the World Cup. BCCI has problems with Ten Sports and Neo Sports and this has prevented them to sell the rights to them , he added. Unless something extra ordinary happens in the next 2 days, cricket fans in India won’t be able to watch the match live, he added.
“We’ve lined up broadcasters in virtually all parts of the world except India,” Chowdhury added.
India have sent a second-string team to Bangladesh, resting the likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, to keep them fresh for the all-important England tour that starts next month.
Prasanna Krishnan, the chief executive of Sony Six, said thatbecause they have planned pre match shows for every match , there will be a lot of over lapping time and they canot spare their channel for cricket.
Nitin Kukreja of Star Sports said: “We don’t have the rights of the series.”
“There would be a lot of overlapping time between the World Cup matches and ODIs,”, told the Mirror. “We’ve a planned a few pre-match shows for the World Cup and we could not have spared our channel for cricket.”
