Australian coach Darren Lehmann has expressed his elation over Australia’s batting stocks. After the third day’s play against the West Indies, Lehmann said that Australia’s batting depth was a massive strength and he was simply proud of his batsmen. Right from Usman Khawaja to wicketkeeper Peter Nevill, everyone has made healthy contributions with the bat in recent times.

“The top five is pretty settled,” Lehmann told Fox Sports. “We’re really happy with the way the batting group has come together over this summer and made some big runs. “We obviously play the conditions really well at home. “But the challenge for the group is to finish the summer off really well and then play that way away from home.”

Reflecting on a positive summer for the Australians, Lehmann added that his batsmen did a wonderful job. “Test match runs are pretty important – full stop. They’re hard to get,” he said. “It’s just a case of making as many as you can. “I was really pleased with all the batters getting hundreds. We’ve had a few this summer which is pleasing.”

Speaking in support of southpaw Shaun Marsh, who despite scoring a century was dropped, Lehmann said that he would remain in the scheme of things. “It was tough on Shaun, who played so well in Hobart,” Lehmann said. “He’s taken it brilliantly well. He understood Usman had to come back in. “He’s fantastic around the group. We’ve got to get him some cricket and he’s in great form.”
