Darren Sammy Blessed With A Baby Boy

Darren Sammy Blessed With A Baby Boy

Former West Indies skipper Darren Sammy and his wife Cathy Daniel, on Saturday (December 2), welcomed a baby boy. The child is called Xzavier Reign Sammy, according to a message by the cricketer.

Sammy took to Twitter to announce the news and also gave an update on the new-born and mother’s health, writing:

“Xzavier Reign Sammy…. King was born today at 12:09am. 10lbs 4oz. Mummy is also doing well. Giving thanks to The Most High for his blessings.”

Meanwhile, the two time World T20-winning skipper is currently plying his trade in the Bangladesh Premier League. The all-rounder has fallen completely out of favour with Cricket West Indies and is now only playing franchise cricket across the globe. Sammy has not played for his national team since the explosive speech he gave after guiding West Indies to their second World T20 title in April last year. Sammy had gone on to slam the board in the presentation ceremony and has been ignored by the selectors after that.

Earlier this year in June, Cricket West Indies had offered “temporary amnesty” to some big names who earlier did not fit the selection criteria to make themselves available for ODIs. As a result, veteran batsman Chris Gayle was recalled to the ODI side for the first time since the 2015 World Cup for the England series. However, Sammy was once again ignored.

Overall, Sammy has represented West in 38 Tests, 126 One-Day Internationals and 68 T20 Internationals so far, scoring close to 8,000 runs across formats, also, picking up 209 wickets. He was also named the captain of the Test and one-day teams in 2010.
