West Indies former skipper Darren Sammy has opened up that he had a chat with Ishant Sharma and hold no grudges for the Indian cricketer for using the racial remark for him.
Darren Sammy had opened up that he had to face racial remark during his IPL’s stint for Sunrisers Hyderabad. His revelation has given support to other cricketers to come forward and openly talk about facing racism. Sammy had said that he was often referred to as ‘Kaalu’ (Black), a racial slur the meaning of which he understood only recently.
Ishant Sharma, on his official Instagram, had used that racial term for the West Indies player which is evidence of Sammy’s allegation.
The Windies was angry and shout out on his official account for the same. He had asked for an apology but subsequently, he softened his stand.
Darren Sammy has opined that he had chats with India’s premier pacer and had sorted out with him. He opined that he consider Ishant as his brother.
“I don’t hold grudges. I have spoken to Ishant Sharma. I consider him a brother like I did back in 2014 and ’15 when playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad,” Sammy told PTI in an interview facilitated by his Caribbean Premier League franchise St Lucia Zouks.
However, he said that he would never get back from speaking against racism. The batsman had no regrets of openly talk about the subject which had been ignored for a long period.
“But again if I find out that a possible racial slur is being used to describe me, no matter what time I find out, I will ask questions about it and that’s what I did.
“I have spoken and voiced my opinion and I am moving on. All these issues started a conversation in the cricket fraternity. I have no regrets talking about that,” he said.
