Daryl Mitchell has replaced Devon Conway in New Zealand’s Test squad for the upcoming tour of India. Devon Conway was earlier ruled out of the tour, and the ICC T20 World Cup Final with a broken hand sustained in the Black Caps semi-final win over England on Wednesday.
Head coach Gary Stead said Devon Conway would return home with the T20 squad after their three-game series in India next week, while Daryl Mitchell will stay on for the two-Test series starting later this month.

“It’s a shame for Devon to miss out on the first series of the new World Test Championship cycle, but it also offers up an opportunity for someone else,” Stead said as per New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

“Daryl’s versatility means he can cover a lot of batting positions and he’s certainly got plenty of confidence at the moment. He’s proven he can perform in Test cricket and I know he’s excited to rejoin the Test group,” he added.
On Monday, the Kiwis head to India to begin the tour with three T20 Internationals, the first of which is on November 17 in Jaipur, followed by Ranchi on the 19th, and Kolkata on the 21st. The two-Test series starts in Kanpur on November 25, with the second Test in Mumbai on December 3.
Devon Conway May Return Against Bangladesh Tests
Devon Conway’s first chance to return to the line-up will come against Bangladesh in early January when they tour New Zealand for two Tests. He has made a remarkable start to his Test career with a double century on debut against England at Lord’s in June. He followed with 80 in the second Test and another half-century in the World Test Championship final against India.

Devon Conway has played 3 Tests and 3 ODIs apart from 20 T20Is and averages more than 50 in each format. He has already 1 Test and 1 ODI ton apart from 4 T20I fifties and 7 overall fifties. On the other hand, Daryl Mitchell has played 5 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 21 T20Is.
Daryl Mitchell had never scored an international T20 half-century but ended the most important game of his life in the semi-final against England unbeaten on 72 off 47 balls. It was New Zealand opener Daryl Mitchell who finished the job, hitting 25 off his last seven deliveries to win the semis with an over to spare.
Daryl Mitchell has been in very good form with the willow in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. The right-hander is the highest run-scorer for the Black Caps in the tournament and has amassed 197 runs at an average of 39.40 and a strike rate in excess of 140.
