Quite often we tend to date people and with time progressively learn their likes and dislikes. People would agree with the fact that we usually do not give away the exact illustration of our complete self owing to the fact that we need to make that perfect impact on the opposite person. So what if you are one of those lucky people who are in a relationship with someone who is a passionate sports fan?
Here’s a list of what pros should you expect out of this equation and what cons should you be armed against beforehand.

1. A noisy house

Be it early morning, an afternoon, late evening or late at night, if there is a match on, you are probably going to hear a lot of shouting, a lot of ‘Come On’ chants, a fair doze of abuses hurled at the Television monitor and the occasional flower vase broken if they’re into breaking stuff. It’s not something that they will do to rile you up but in fact they’re the one who is riled up. Kindly bear it.

2. That elusive gift

There are very few things in the world that would make a passionate sports fan happier than his/her team winning their match/title/cup. Knowing their passion for the team, you’re highly advised to latch onto any chance of asking for a treat or a gift that you’ve been waiting for a long time, the probability of getting an affirmative increases exponentially in such a mood.

3. Mood swings

Woman and mood swings are closely associated typically but it goes very well with every sports fan too. You could see them happy, smiling and joyful while an hour later they could appear sad, depressed and gloomy. Just like the good results, bad results affect them too. So point #2 and #3 come in a combo package deal. When you try consoling them after their team loses, just pray thy Lord has some mercy on your poor soul.

4. Loyalty

A passionate sports fan is very loyal to his/her team. Up and downs are part and parcel of any sport. But a loyal fan would always stick it out through the best and the worst of times with his beloved team. If you think your partner is as passionate for you as he/she is for their team, that person is a keeper.

5. Can we postpone it?

Want to plan a dinner? Go out for a trip? Visit your parents at the weekend? Make sure you consult your partner if there are no matches clashing with your plans. If they are, you’d probably get the “Can’t we push it for tomorrow?” or “There’s a huge match tonight, next weekend maybe? I promise”. For all you know, next weekend there’s a bigger match up and you’d probably be bummed again.

6. Weird gifts

This may not be true with everyone but a sports’ fan will probably be happier getting a Jersey or some merchandize related to their favorite team than maybe that costly piece of clothing that you picked instead. Is this a good or a bad thing? Depends on which side of the fence you fall. Well, all the best with that.

7. Dates may not technically be dates

While your idea of a perfect date maybe a candle light dinner or a quite peaceful outing at the beach or some authentic stuff on a garden terrace under moon-light but a sports’ fans’ definition may vary by a slight margin [read colossal] A pizza ordered at home, with a carton of chilled beer before their Television sets could well be a usual sight.

8. They understand your passion

If you’re interested in Arts, cooking, fashion designing and are really passionate about it, rest assured your partner will understand it. You can use their passion for sports to get your message across easily. Only a person deeply passionate about something can understand their partner’s passion about a certain thing.

9. They have an emotional side

Some people complain about their partners being emotionally unavailable at times when needed. But rest assured your partner is not emotionally dead, at all. The time their favorite sportsman retires or leaves their team, you will find the whole spectrum of emotions oozing out uncontrollably. So the next time when they kill your favorite character in that movie/novel which makes you sad, your partner will understand your pain. Or maybe not.

10. You have to join the team

It doesn’t matter if you are as disinterested about sports as they’re about your first cousin’s wedding or your office gossip but if they support a team then you have to, I repeat, YOU HAVE TO, like that team. Also, can you never ever say anything against their team because well, that’s equivalent to a sin as per their sports’ bible. You have been informed. You’re welcome.

This was just our take on the topic and If you have any other ideas/suggestions/additions to this list, feel free to share.
