Dav Whatmore Feels Shubman Gill Is Right Choice For India’s Number 4 Problem
The number 4 issue has always been a haunting thing for the Indian National Cricket Team. Meanwhile, the former Under-19 coach of the Indian team Dav Whatmore believes that Shubman Gill would be the solution for the problem.
Gill has been making the right noises for quite some time now before being finally rewarded when he made his debut against New Zealand team. He is currently just 19 years of age and has a long career lying ahead of him.
Early exposure to the Indian team will further help him improve his work with the willow and learn the tricks of the trade from some of the best in the game. If mentored correctly, Gill can be India’s next big thing.
There are a very few batsmen as technically gifted as Gill. His determination coupled with hard-work has seen him evolve as a quick learner of the game.
Shubman Gill has a sound technique – Dav Whatmore
Speaking of Shubman Gill, Dav Whatmore quoted that Gill got the best technique to play spinners and the fast bowlers on any surface. Further, he went on to ask the Indian team to try out Shubman, who can make things fall in place for the nation.
“India was hit by a couple of injuries and that was unfortunate. The No. 4 position kept sticking its head up – asking for a better solution. I feel Rishabh Pant, perhaps, could have done the job had he come (to the side) earlier. Going forward, India could look at players such as Shubman Gill for that spot. He is young, has a sound technique and has all the shots in the book,” Whatmore said as quoted by Times of India.
Shubman Gill made his debut during India’s tour of New Zealand earlier this year and showed good promise. He was also very good for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. A young man with a solid technique, Gill is currently with the India A side in the West Indies.
