Aussie opener David Warner, who is one of the most destructive modern day batsmen, has hailed his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Shikhar Dhawan for an outstanding batting performance against Sri Lanka on the opening day of the 1st Test at Galle. Taking to his twitter handle, the southpaw congratulated his IPL teammate. “Well played to @SDhawan25 awesome to see him go well. Love Sri Lanka what a place,” wrote Warner.

The southpaw made a comeback into the Test XI following injuries to Murali Vijaya and KL Rahul and seized his opportunity with both hands. It was pure carnage at the Galle International Stadium which saw Dhawan smashing 190 of just 167 deliveries which almost batted Sri Lanka out of the Test on the 1st day itself.
The southpaw smashed his highest Test score and shared a brilliant 252 runs stand with Cheteshwar Pujara for the 2nd wicket to ensure India reached a commanding position. The southpaw was dropped on 31 by Asela Gunaratne and not only did Dhawan went on to smash 190, the dropped catch also forced Gunaratne to leave the field after injuring his left thumb. He was immediately rushed off to Colombo for operation and won’t take any further part in the Test.
Dhawan smashed 110 runs all by himself in the 2nd session before falling 10 runs short of a well deserved double century. His innings reminded us of Sehwag who played similarly and never cared for a particular milestone if the ball was in the arc to hit out of the stadium. The southpaw struck his first century at a strike rate of 90 but following the completion of his century he went berserk and started smashing the listless Sri Lanka bowlers all around the Galle International Stadium.
His innings has put India in a commanding position and has been brilliantly supported by Cheteshwar Pujara who completed yet another century. Captain Virat Kohli had a rare failure as he was dismissed on 3 while attempting a hook.
Meanwhile, Dhawan will be a relieved man after getting back to some runs in the longest format. He might face the axe once Rahul and Vijay returns but till then he can make a strong case for himself.
After 1st day’s play, Indian opening batsman replied his IPL teammate, David Warner on twitter. Dhawan tweeted;
Thanks david fr ur wishes man!!☺️
