David Warner Earns New Nickname From Australia Team Mates

David Warner has been in incredible form for Australia in the ongoing world cup. He recently scored a massive 166 against Bangladesh on Thursday. On the other hand, he is also the leading run scorer in the tournament.

However, things were not so nice when he landed in England. He is coming after 12 month ban from international cricket. Both him and Steven Smith are facing the wrath of English fans since entering the world cup. Meanwhile, there is always that added pressure of performing in the mega event.

But David Warner looked cool as an ice with the bat for Australia. He is one of the main reasons for Australia to stay atop of World Cup points table. However, ever since his ban, the player also changed a lot in his character and behavior. So his teammates gave him a new nickname.

“The guys call me ‘Hum-Bull’ (humble),” Warner was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“It’s just one of those things. I think I was on a good behaviour bond for two years, I think it was if that’s what you want to call it, with the ICC. And I couldn’t really do anything on the field and I’m at that point (in life) as well at the moment.”

David Warner was one of the aggressive players in the Australian cricket. He was obviously seen confronting opposition players. However, the transformation has been remarkable. Now with a more mature head, Warner is leading the run charts in the world cup.

He scored an impressive 447 in just six games in 2019 world cup.

The 32-year old was in fact in the best form of his life at the moment. He also finished as orange cap winner in Indian Premier League prior to the tournament. His purple patch with the bat is due to his hunger to get back into the national team.

On the other hand, he is being more calculative in the risks he takes. He is being more patient with his game to ensure that he gets big runs. All through the world cup, Warner did not give away his wicket cheaply. However, he was tested by Afghanistan by some tight bowling in the opening game.

Also Indian bowlers frustrated him with tight lines and choked him with dot balls.

“It’s just more runs that you can miss out on,” Warner said. “For me it’s about going out there and putting my best foot forward for the team and trying to score as many runs as I can, to make up for all the runs that I’ve missed out on and for the team. I don’t mean to go out there and bat slow. I’ve tried to get a calculation of how many fielders I’ve hit in the first 10 (overs).

“I got frustrated against India. I got frustrated against Afghanistan. And then today, Finchy (Aaron Finch) kept telling me to hang in there and bat deep and bat time. And that was in like the eighth or ninth over. Because it’s generally not my game to stick there, and I usually try and go after it a little bit. Must be a bit more maturity, I think,” he added.

It remains to be seen if David Warner can break the long standing record of Sachin Tendulkar. The master is still the leading run scorer in a single edition of world cup after his incredible efforts for India in 2003 world cup.
