Suspended Australia batsman, David Warner had a poor return to competitive cricket, as he got dismissed for a solitary run by veteran pacer Lasith Malinga in the Global T20 League.

David Warner returns to competitive cricket

The southpaw who is plying his trade for the Winnipeg Hawks started off the innings with Lendl Simmons. After getting off the mark in the opening over, Warner got castled by a brilliant delivery from Lasith Malinga.

The ball came tailing in and breached his defence. It is undesirable given the fact that Warner has been out of competitive cricket for some time now.

However, he did amend in the field by plucking three catches and inflicting a brilliant run out. He is a livewire on the field, and it was evident one more time. There was no rustiness in the way he moved on the ground. The southpaw will look to come back stronger in the next matches.

Winnipeg Hawks won convincingly despite Warner’s failure

Despite Warner’s failure, his team Winnipeg Hawks registered a convincing victory by 46 runs against the Montreal Tigers. Ben Mcdermott smashed a brilliant knock of 68.

Darren Bravo also chipped in with 54 which propelled Hawks to a score of 202. David Miller also provided a late impetus with a 15-ball 35. The Montreal Tigers kept losing wickets at regular intervals and was never in the match.

Dwayne Bravo and Junaid Siddiqui was the pick of the bowlers for Winnipeg Hawks as both finished with three wickets each. It was an impressive bowling performance. The Tigers were eventually skittled out for 157 in the 19th over.

Meanwhile, Steven Smith returned to competitive cricket a day before. He is currently plying his trade for the Toronto Nationals. He scored a fluent half-century to announce his return to competitive cricket.
