Three years ago the whole cricket fraternity was stunned when a ball struck the base of Phil Hughes skull, and he died due to bleeding in the brain.

This incidence raised several questions on the safety measures taken in the game. Philip Hughes death brought sorrow and sadness, as he was one of the favourites and loved players in the Australian side, not only with his Australian teammates he was a very loved amongst his contemporaries as well.

Phil Hughes was close to most of the Australian cricketers; Michael Clarke’s speech at his funeral still brings tears to the eyes of fans all around the world. Hughes died on 27th November 2014; three years have gone by fans and cricketers still mourn the death of the talented young left-handed batsman.

Also, he died three days before his 26th birthday, and today on his 29th birthday, Australian cricketers have taken to social media to express their love and wish Hughes a very Happy Birthday.

Phil Hughes played for New South Wales in the Australian domestic circuit and made many close friends while playing for the side. NSW had produced many great players for the Australian team. Michael Clarke and David Warner are regarded as a few of Hughes’s closest friends in the Australian team.

David Warner paid tribute to Hughes just 12 days after his death during a Test match against India in Adelaide when he reached 63 and kissed the pitch in his memory. On his birthday, Warner tweeted,

“Happy birthday little man. #ph408”

Michael Clarke who considers Hughes as his younger brother also tweeted a picture of his daughter holding a candle with a label which reads as,

‘In Loving memory of Philip Joel Hughes- 408’ and he wrote, “Happy Birthday Uncle Phillip.”
