Australia thrashed New Zealand by 116 runs on Tuesday after David Warner’s ton propelled Australia to a significant total of 378, followed by Pat Cummins four wickets in the second ODI at the Manuka Oval.
With this match, Australia clinches the three-match Chappell-Hadlee series 2-0 and regained the coveted title between the Trans-Tasman rivals.
David Warner smashed Kiwis bowlers all around the park with some lusty blows as Mitchell Marsh chipped in with 70 off just 40 balls with Travis Head scoring 57 off 32 balls.
Leading from the front Steven Smith scored 72 off 76 balls to sail the Kangaroos ship in the middle overs.
“It was a fantastic wicket, it always is here at Manuka Oval. The other day I played a bit of a lazy stroke but today I knuckled down and it was a good wicket to do it on,” David Warner said after scoring a sixth one-day International century.
For New Zealand, skipper Kane Williamson scored vital 81 runs off 80 balls and James Neesham hit 74 in 83 balls as it was bundled out on 262.
On a pitch which looked pretty flat, Pat Cummins claimed four wickets for giving away 41 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, James Faulkner picked two wickets each.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first after the delayed start due to rain, while including their experienced campaigner Tim Southee for paceman Lockie Ferguson.
Tim Southee bagged two wickets after giving away 63 runs whereas, Santer, Colin de Grandhomme and Trent Boult picked wicket apiece.
As Glenn Maxwell was again overlooked, the hosts made one change while bringing in all-rounder James Faulkner in the place of leg-spinner Adam Zampa.
