It won’t be wrong to say that David Warner’s Test career is completely off the track at the moment. The left-handed batsman has not really managed to live up to the reputation in Tests in the last couple of years or so.

With his form showing little sign of improvement, every failure of his in the red-ball format is met with severe criticism. The Australia cricket fraternity has been highly critical of David Warner in recent times and has constantly urged the team-management to drop him from the team.

Barring the double-century against South Africa in the Boxing Day Test a couple of months, David Warner has not played any big knock in Tests in recent months. In his last 15 Tests innings, he has crossed the 50-run score just once which was the double century.

His recent performance in India has only increased the pressure on him. The southpaw played knocks of 1, 10 and 15 before an elbow injury brought a premature end to his campaign in the four-match Test series.

David Warner to retire from Tests?

The poor batting display in India has piled more pressure on David Warner. And with age not on his side, not many want him in Australia want him to be in the Test team. However, the veteran batsman has made it clear that he won’t be retiring any time soon.

Warner has said that he is not feeling the pressure and has vowed to play Test cricket at least till 2024. He also said that if the selectors go on to drop him from the Test, he has no problem in focusing on the white-ball format.

“I’ve always said I’m playing to 2024; if the selectors feel that I’m not worthy of my spot, then so be it, and I can push on to the white-ball stuff,” David Warner told reporters at Sydney Airport.

“I’ve got the next 12 months, a lot of cricket’s ahead for the team and if I can keep scoring runs and putting my best foot forward for the team and I can (hold) my spot, it’d be great for the team.

“It’s easy pickings (for critics) when you’re 36 (years old) going on 37. I’ve seen it before with the ex-players as well. So for me if I’m taking pressure off the rest of the other guys, and no one’s worrying about the rest of the team, I’m happy to do that,” he added.
