- Birthday – Brian Lara:
A legend of the game and one of the best players to have come out of the Caribbean, Brian Lara was born on this very day back in 1969.
He had the knack of playing marathon innings every now and then and holds the record for the highest individual score in international test matches. His 400* against England in 2004 still remains as the highest score in test cricket and his 501 in a first-class game is another record that is yet to be broken.
However, even in such a stellar career, Lara was not too far away from controversy. His exploits as the captain of the team were criticized and though he was a class apart from his team-mates at his prime, he had a very turbulent career at West Indies.
But all aside, the World of cricket is great-full for the legendary batsman who has given us so many memories over the years.
