- Birthday – David Hookes:
Arguably one of the best first-class cricketers for Australia of the last century, David Hookes was born on this very day back in 1955.
The dazzling batsman was one of the first people to hit six sixes in an over and scored an impeccable century of just 34 balls, the fastest at that time playing for South Africa against Victoria. Hooks’ life ended in tragic circumstances in January 2004, at 48, when he succumbed to his injuries after he was assaulted following an altercation outside a Melbourne hotel when he was a part of the coaching staff at Victoria.
