DDCA settles Virat Kohli’s dues after three years

India’s test skipper Virat Kohli got his match fees dues settled by Delhi & District Cricket Association after three years as he led Delhi team in NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 2013. The regional board which had been in controversies of late is yet to clear the dues of players who have represented Delhi in various formats last year.

The Indian skipper was sanctioned a total amount of Rs. 176,000. Due to some administrative issues, the players have got their match fees for the seasons 2013-14 and 2014-15 this year. The association has settled the dues of another star player Shikhar Dhawan who was sanctioned an amount of Rs 237,600 for his appearances to the Delhi team.

The list also includes the likes of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Virender Sehwag who stopped playing cricket from 2014 was paid an amount of Rs. 9000 which was still outstanding and Gambhir was paid an outstanding balance of Rs. 4500.

Delhi’s coach and former Indain player Dahiya was also cleared of his debts for the last three years.

“The bills from these big names were lying with the association for years. If there is surplus money in the association, there’s no harm in clearing out as much payment as possible. The association can settle its account once the money comes from BCCI,” DDCA treasurer Ravinder Manchanda told TOI.

“These payments are made from the profits the DDCA has made by hosting World T20 and IPL matches this year. Since we haven’t submitted the balance sheets yet, the BCCI can’t sanction the money or the fees. But it was only fair to clear the long pending dues of those who don’t play for Delhi so often. Once the grants come from the board, we will clear the fees of the rest of the players,” Manchanda added.

The DDCA president,  SP Bansal was charged with misappropriation of funds which has led to few controversies which is one of the reasons why DDCA did not submit their balance sheets to BCCI. Becasue of this very reason, player’s match fees were in due for the past three seasons.
