The Indian team for the forthcoming World Cup was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on 15th April. Meanwhile, the Indian board has also decided to send Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Avesh Khan and Navdeep Saini as net bowlers for the World Cup. In fact, Navdeep Saini is also included as a stand-by in the list.
Subsequently, all these four fast bowlers have the skills to cross 140 clicks on the speedometer. In fact, Navdeep Saini is the quickest of them all as he can bowl consistently over 145 km/h.
Great pace bowling talent coming through for India.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar and Navdeep Saini have both impressed in the ongoing Indian Premier League season. Chahar has scalped 15 wickets in 12 matches whereas Saini has taken nine wickets in the 11 matches he has played.
Both of these fiery fast bowlers are looking forward to standing tall as net bowlers and help prepare their team for the ODI showpiece.
“I have been given a big responsibility of a net bowler in the World Cup. My aim will be to bowl as fast as possible to Indian players and help them prepare for the World Cup,” Navdeep told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.
“Khaleel (Ahmed), Avesh (Khan) and Deepak (Chahar) will also be there to help the Indian team. I just want to give my best at the nets and help Team India prepare for the big tournament,” a confident Navdeep said.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar has been the cynosure of all eyes since he has played under the tutelage of MS Dhoni. Chahar has the skills to move the ball both ways and he understands the magnitude of the responsibility he has been trusted with.
It is a big duty for me – Chahar.
“Indian selectors have given me a big duty. I think they have considered me because of the swing. In fact, I am ready to bowl my swingers to the Indian batsmen and get them ready for the World Cup,” Chahar said.
“I want to bowl particularly to our openers. In fact, I have the ability to swing the ball both ways (in-swing and out-swing). I can bowl yorkers too and want to bowl as much as I can to our batsmen,” Chahar said.
“I am also excited about interacting with the senior players in England and always want to improve,” the Rajasthan and Chennai Super Kings pacer said.
Meanwhile, both of these batsmen could be waiting in the wings if a mishap of injury happens to first preferred three seamers – Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
Saini is one of the standbys and he thinks that he is not thinking on those lines whereas Chahar said that he would be ready to fill in the big shoes.
Don’t want to think too far ahead.
“I am not thinking along those lines. In fact, I have been given this responsibility and I want to give my best. I respect the selectors’ decision,” Saini said.
“Yes, I am ready,” a confident Chahar replied.
“If given a chance, I will be ready to grab it. I will give credit to the IPL. This is a platform which has given me and every other young bowler the opportunity to bowl against world-class batsmen. When you play two or three seasons, you have an idea about those batsmen. You know how to bowl to get them out. This matters a lot,” Chahar said.
The pace bowling is coming through the ages for the Indian team and it is a great sign for the side. There is a lot of talent and promise and the last four to five years have been fruitful for the pace battery.
