Defending Champions Karnataka retain the Ranji Trophy title
Defending Champions Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu in the finals of 2014/2015 Ranji Trophy by an innings and 217 runs at the Wankehde Stadium in Mumbai few moments ago. It was a complete domination by Karnataka in the finals right from the toss till the end of the match.
On Day 1 Karnataka won the toss and elected to bowl. Karnataka bowlers were spot on and bowled superb line and lengths. Vinay Kumar was at his best picking 5 wickets. It was an excellent display of bowling as Tamil Nadu was bowled out for 134. In reply Karnataka was struggling at 45 for 4 at the end of first day.
It was the second day when Karnataka started dominating the game. Mithun played some excellent shots and was the first wicket. Then Karun Nair and KL Rahul stitched a huge partnership. Both of them made the Tamil Nadu bowlers sweat for a wicket. At the end of day 2 Karnataka were 323 for 5 with Karun Nair on 130 and KL Rahul on 131. Both of them made sure that Karnataka did not throw away the advantage.
On day 3 KL Rahul and Karun Nair continued the same way that they did on day 2. KL Rahul was the first man out for 188. Gopal also got early for 11. Karun Nair and Vinay Kumar put another partnership. Karun Nair scored a triple ton. At the end of day 3 Karnataka were 618 for 7.
On day 4 Karun Nair was out for 328. After that Vinay Kumar and S Arvind put up another partnership. Vinay Kumar scored a brilliant 100 and Arvind scored 50. Karnataka was bowled for a huge total of 762. When Tamil Nadu second innings began they lost Abhinav Mukund, Murali Vijay and Baba Indrajith. At the end of day 4 Tamil Nadu were 113 for 3.
On the 5th Day Tamil Nadu began on has lost the wicket of Baba Aparjith. After that Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar are scoring runs. At Lunch Tamil Nadu were 250 for 4. After lunch Tamil Nadu has lost 2 wickets of Shankar who was out for 103 and R Prasanna for 8. Dinesh Karthik has played an excellent knock of unbeaten 119. At tea Tamil Nadu were 378 for 6 with four wickets in hand. The match ended in draw with Tamil Nadu finishing on 411 for 8 before the captains called off play.
Karnataka team has been on a roll in the 2014/15 Ranji Trophy season with contribution from all the players and deserves to be the champions for the second time in succession. The team has performed as a unit.
