ToggleSuryakumar Yadav will be in India’s ICC World Cup 2023 squad feels former India spinner and selector Sarandeep Singh calling the batter a fantastic player and has the ability to turn it around for himself.
This comes despite Suryakumar Yadav becoming the first batter in ODI cricket to score three first-ball ducks in a row, an unwanted feat that he achieved during the recent three-match ODI series against Australia.
Though a brilliant T20I player, Suryakumar Yadav is yet to crack the code when it comes to ODI cricket and has struggled thus far scoring just 433 runs in 23 ODIs with just fifties to his name. When comparing this to his T20I figures of 1675 runs in 48 T20Is with 3 centuries and 13 fifties at a strike rate of 175 plus, it becomes confusing for the fans.
The ODI World Cup 2023 will be played in India from October 5 to November 19 and the Indian team is already without the services of Rishabh Pant in the middle order as he recovers from his accident in December and subsequent surgeries.
Suryakumar Yadav Has Been Phenomenal In The Last One Year: Sarandeep Singh
Sarandeep Singh has put his weight behind the right-handed batter and said that Surya is a fantastic player and has the ability to turn it around for himself.
“Suryakumar Yadav is a fantastic cricketer. Just feel bad for him that he got out on zero in the three games against Australia but he has the ability to turn it around for himself. I definitely see him in the World Cup squad. It’s about backing the player. When we were the selectors, we used to have a plan and a team and we used to back them till the end.
Moreover, SKY has been phenomenal in the last one year. He is batting exceptionally well. He has scored loads of runs in domestic cricket and has made his way into the side. So, if someone asks (for) my opinion, I would definitely give him another opportunity,” Sarandeep Singh told News18 CricketNext.
Suryakumar will have a chance in the upcoming IPL 2023 to rectify his form and press for a chance in the Indian team for the ODI World Cup 2023.
