Delhi Capitals Confirm Axar Patel Who Is In The 10th Day Of Quarantine Will Join Team After Testing Negative After 3-4 Days

Team’s director Mustafa Ghouse added that the Gujarat-born spinner was into his day 10 of the quarantine process.

“Ya, Axar is better. Saturday will be day 10 of his quarantine process. Hopefully 3-4 more days, a couple of negative tests and he will be ready to join the team. We are running tests on him over the next few days to know how quickly we can get him back, available for selection,” Mustafa Ghouse told Sports Today in an exclusive interview.

Axar Patel had checked in the DC team hotel with a negative test result on March 28 but returned a positive result in his 2nd Covid test.

“He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28 with a negative report. His report from the 2nd COVID test came positive. He is in isolation at a designated medical care facility,” DC had said in their statement.

The BCCI SOP says a player who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate in the designated area outside the bio-secure environment for a minimum of 10 days from the first day of symptoms or the date of collection of the sample which resulted in a positive RT-PCR report, whichever is earlier.

Axar Patel had tested positive for COVID-19 as Delhi Capitals suffered another jolt after their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was injured in an India-England match after which Rishabh Pant was assigned captaincy. The left-arm spinner took his tally in the recently concluded 4 Test series against England where he debuted to 27 wickets.

He picked 9 scalps in 15 games in IPL 2020 at UAE but the fact that the IPL series is in India this time, he may bag more wickets for Indian subcontinent pitches offer more turn and aid spinners.

Delhi Capitals Confirm Shreyas Iyer Got Sensation Back After The Surgery

Further, Mustafa Ghouse informed that regular skipper Shreyas Iyer, who recently got his left shoulder operated on, has got sensation back in. He added that a “gutted” Shreyas Iyer is in constant touch with DC players and head coach Ricky Ponting.

“Shreyas is better. He has got sensation back in his hand which is the most important factor after the surgery. He is gutted that he is not part of the team. He is in constant touch with the boys and Ricky. All we have to do now is make sure that he is on the path of recovery and getting back to playing at the level he has been before,” he said.
